Why Am I Not Able to Erase SD Cards on a Mac Using Disk Utility

My SD card is full, and I'm going to back it up and format it for future use. But my Mac can't erase the data from the SD card. Does anyone know why?

Suppose you are not able to erase SD cards on a Mac using Disk Utility, don't worry! You may get an 'Erase process has failed on Mac' error while trying to erase the SD card on a Mac using Disk Utility. Usually, this error occurs while erasing an SD card if:

  • You disconnect the SD card during the erase process.
  • The SD card fails to mount due to sudden power failure or outrage of your Mac.
  • SD card is damaged or corrupted. Or the SD card reader is broken.

To fix the 'Erase Process had failed' error, consider running First Aid to repair the SD card using Disk Utility. Follow the steps here:

Step 1. Open Disk Utility from the 'Applications > Utilities' folder.

Step 2. Select the SD card from the Disk Utility window.

Step 3. Click 'First Aid > Run' to repair the SD card.

After repairing the SD card, if you find that some essential files have disappeared, use the professional and trusted software EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard for Mac Pro to perform the SD card recovery on Mac. Follow the steps below:
