According to your description, you say that your computer, run by the XP operating system, shows the write-protected message. Therefore, the problem is your USB drive is in write protection. In fact, the message "write-protected" is under a state of write protection. It aims to prevent modifying and deleting crucial data on your USB drive. Therefore, if you want to send data to the USB drive or delete files in the USB device, you should first remove the write protection for the USB drive.
How to remove the write protection for the USB drive? Based on my own experience. Here are some methods for you as follows:

Firstly, some devices, such as USB flash drives, SD cards, and Pen drives, have a physical switch used to lock or unlock users' devices, but some devices don't have a physical switch. Therefore, you must check whether there is such a physical switch on your USB drive and if it is in write protection mode. You need to check and toggle write protection through a physical switch.

But if your USB drive doesn't have the physical switch, here is a second method for you: EaseUS Partition Master. The software is a simple and operable method for users who have little or no computer experience. At the same time, this software is highly compatible and works with various computer operating systems like Windows 11/10/8/7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, and so on. Therefore, If you want to solve your problem successfully, it is recommended to try this software.
